New Officials Institute Held In Woodward,
Registration Available For Next Session
On November 16th In McAlester

October 13, 2017

Thursday, October 12, OML staff and instructors traveled to Woodward and hosted over 40 municipal officials at the Woodward Conference Center. Attendees heard from governing professionals from around the state about topics such as budgeting and open records. The next opportunity to attend a New Officials Institute will be on November 16th in McAlester at Eastern Oklahoma State College.

Throughout the year OML provides an intensive educational program specifically tailored for newly elected and appointed officials as well as experienced officials who want to keep up-to-date on municipal issues. The NOI teaches the statutorily required topics such as Municipal Budget Requirements, the Oklahoma Open Meeting Act, the Oklahoma Open Records Act, Ethics, Procedures for Conducting Meetings, Conflict of Interest, and Purchasing Procedures.

State law requires each person elected for the first time to a position of a municipality on or after January 1, 2005, OR appointed for the first time on or after July 1, 2006, to attend an institute for municipal officials. The statute is codified at Title 11 O.S., Section 8-114. For future dates, more information or to register, see the NOI page on our website.

You don't have to be newly elected to attend. Everyone is welcome! If you have any questions, please contact Sarah Lingenfelter at OML.
