John (Jack) F. Barrett Passes Away

John (Jack) F. Barrett was born March 1, 1940, to Michael William and Bertha Mae (Ford) Barrett in Seminole, Oklahoma. Jack was one of seven children. He married Patricia White on September 2, l961. He owned and operated Barrett Oil Company, a Texaco Petroleum Marketing Company, for eighteen years. He served as mayor of Holdenville for twenty-four years and was the recipient of several prestigious awards. He received the Governor George Nigh Mayor’s Award in 2000 and was inducted into the Seminole State College Hall of Fame. Jack served on the board of directors for both First United Bank and The Oklahoma Municipal League. He was also instrumental in Tyson Corporation and the Davis Correctional Facility coming to Holdenville.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Mary Rose and Kay, and by a brother, Michael.

He is survived by three siblings: Pat Barrett, Martin Barrett and Joan Roberts, as well as many nieces and nephews. Jack leaves behind his wife of fifty-six years, Patricia (White) Barrett; one son, Michael Francis Barrett, and Michael’s wife Tammy; two grandsons, Jordan Michael Barrett, Jordan’s wife Rachel, and Blake Thomas Barrett. Jack has two great grandchildren, Ella Dee, nineteen months and, coming in February, Mayer Barrett.

Jack’s legacy is his leadership and the guidance and wisdom he shared with many people over the years, as well as all the memories of love and laughter he created with family and friends. Jack’s life will be celebrated at a graveside service at Holdenville Cemetery, Saturday, September 2,2017 at 2 p.m.
